JOPPATOWNE, Md. — The Harford County Sheriff's Office is investigating a deadly shooting inside Joppatowne High School Friday.

A fight broke out between two students inside a school bathroom just after 12:30pm.

One allegedly pulled a gun and shot the other. The 15-year-old victim, Warren Curtis Grant, was rushed to the hospital where he later died.

Sheriff Jeff Gahler said a School Resource Officer was on duty at the time, but did not hear the shooting.

The unidentified 16-year-old suspected shooter fled to a nearby residential neighborhood, where he was arrested.

No firearm has been recovered thus far, yet police say they have an idea of what kind of gun was used.

There's still no word on how the suspect was able to obtain the weapon.

In a letter on their website, the school system said both students knew each other, but provided no explanation on what led to the fight.

Gahler said current state law prohibits detectives from speaking with the accused gunman due to his age, although it's expected he will be charged as an adult.

While stopping short of revealing the suspect's juvenile record, Gahler said he is known to law enforcement.

This shooting comes just four days into the new school year, and follows Wednesday's tragedy in Georgia where two teachers and two students were killed.
